The U.S. Coast Guard has published the Area Maritime Security Committees 2016 Annual Report which consolidated information collected from the 2016 annual reports of local Area Maritime Security Committees across the country.
The Area Maritime Security Committees 2016 Annual Report highlighted the following common challenges, accomplishments, best practices, and emerging security issues that were experienced or implemented across the nation’s local Area Maritime Security Committees:
- Challenges – (1) Cyber Risk Management and (2) Area Maritime Security Committee Funds
- Accomplishments – (1) Atlantic Area (LANTAREA) and Pacific Area (PACAREA) Training in the Incident Command System, Recovery, Maritime Security, Joint Agencies, Exercises, and Meetings; and (2) Incorporation of Radiological/Nuclear (RAD/NUC) Detection Regional Concept of Operations (CONOPs) and Standard Operating Procedures into Area Maritime Security Plans (AMSPs)
- Best Practices – (1) Partnership with the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) in application of Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) teams; (2) AMSP Geographic Information System (GIS) Integration; and (3) Maritime Fusion Groups
- Emerging Security Issues – (1) Cyber; and (2) Maritime Transportation System Resilience and Recovery
