President Trump Signs Transportation Worker Identification Credential Accountability Act of 2018

On August 2, 2018, President Trump signed the Transportation Worker Identification Credential Accountability Act of 2018 (TWIC Accountability Act) into law.

The TWIC Accountability Act prohibits the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) from implementing the TWIC Reader Rule at any facility until 60 days after the Department of Homeland Secuity (DHS) completes and submits a study to Congress assessing the security and risk mitigation value of the underlying TWIC program. This study is expected to be completed on or about April 2019. This means that the USCG will be unable to enforce the TWIC Reader Rule at any facility until approximately the June 2019 timeframe.
