In July 2018, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will discontinue issuance of the original “2007 Design” Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWICs) and will begin issuing “2018 Design” TWICs.
The “2018 Design” TWIC has enhanced overt, covert, and forensic design features to promote secure use of the credential, including:
- A bold, color-coded expiration field;
- Enhanced color-shifting ink;
- Improved tactility;
- Image transitioning effects when viewed from different angles; and
- Letter lenses, image glint, and reflections when viewed with an LED light source.
While the “2007 Design” will no longer be issued, these TWICs will remain valid until their stated expiration date. Accordingly, as a 5-year renewal credential, the latest a “2007 Design” TWIC can remain valid is 2023.
